Reinstalled from scratch. now > open browser > crashes within a minute (both FF & IE)

    Gonna need some more details
Did the machine work ok before 7
What kind of crash are we talking, freeze?, recoverable?, BSOD?
    Does safe mode work?
    Have you run windows updates?

Did the machine work ok before 7. XP & Win 7 HP both work. I'm using same CD for this new install I'm doing.
What kind of crash are we talking, freeze?, recoverable?, BSOD? Just switches off like an electrical power failure.
    Does safe mode work? Yes.
Have you run windows updates? No. Sometimes she crashes during or after welcome screen.
I'll try updates & add result.

Where did you get your Win 7 disk from?
From the local PC repair shop. It looks legal. i bought it last week. All sealed in box. The first install worked fine until someone tried an experiment and damaged the Win7 installed windows (not the CD). Now the 2nd attempt is suffering from continous random 'blackouts'.

But I have my old XP & it & PC are working fine.

Looks like the updates have cured it. I'll return later & mark solved if all goes well. Thanks.
