From the computer you want to upgrade, go here and run the Advisor.
Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Official Microsoft Download Center

Can you also post a pic of system properties ?

You can get to it by following this: start>right click my computer>click properties

This will tell us what cpu (processor) you have and how much memory you have.

If you can`t post a pic, you can just give us the above info, and the exact model of the pc.

The tool here will show your hardware as well. :)
To better help us to help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's how:SystemInfo See Your System Specs Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built. Very important

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.

After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts.
Click on My system Specs in the lower left of this post to see how it should look.:)
Full instructions are in the tutorial.

Just to clarify the term "Upgrade". You can not do an upgrade directly from XP to Win 7. It has to be a Clean Install of Win 7 which requires that you install your programs again.

I dont know whats going on with this pc but I tried both options that you provided and I kept getting some kind of error box and I clicked continue and it pulled up the system info like you said but the majority of them were completely empty and the ones that were not would not let me post. This pc is a desktop Sony Vaio and all the hardware was last updated in 01 for some and 03 for the others if that helps at all.I have been looking into hardware updates and driver updates but it is all so confusing to me.I read that your hardware should be updated every 2 years and this stuff is ancient.Any suggestions?I don't understand why so many of my specs were completely empty? If there is anything else that I can give you info wise let me know and I will try my best to find it for you.I do know that the hardware drives for my cd-rom and my dvd-rom are both generic.Their info is CD-ROM-(HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8523BS), DVD-ROM (MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8588). I dont know if this helps at all or not. They were both last installed on 7/01/01. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you
