I was running into the same problem and what I did to fix it was to disable Onboard LAN as well as other peripherals through the BIOS. Since that is what Windows checks for in the final "Completing Installation" stage, that was what was causing my computer to shut down. When I disabled the Onboard LAN (as well as peripherals, front-panel audio, and 1394 connection, not sure if those also affected it or if your BIOS will have the same options) I got the installation to work. Now I'm running Windows 7 smoothly and everything works great. So try disabling the Onboard LAN and seeing if that works. I have a wireless card, so the Onboard LAN for me was unnecessary anyways. But if you use the Onboard LAN, you may need to purchase a separate PCI LAN adapter of sorts. Hopefully this helps someone.

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

It's always good to hear of successful installations, and what troubleshooting was done to get there.

    Enjoy Win7.

I was having the EXACT same problem. I upgraded my BIOS to P33, messed with the BIOS settings; nothing, then P31, messed with BIOS; still nothing, then P30 and messed with BIOS; still didn't work. I had an EVGA nForce NF68 motherboard with an ATI Radeon 4850. I was going from Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 Pro 64bit. The problem I faced was that my video card had two DVI ports on the card. Windows 7 Pro apparently doesn't have that driver for DVI so I tried a DVI to D-Sub connector and I got passed the Startup! So for all of you that are trying to upgrade I hope this helps. Definitely use a D-Sub connection to your monitor, it made a world of difference for me!

    Fixable

    I had 2 different partitions, C:/D:.

C: had windows 7 ult installed and D was just extra space, C: corrupted and the only way I could get the computer to boot was running the install of a usb because the computer doesnt have a CDROM. After installing multiple times on the C: drive leaving D: alone (had most of my information/files) nothing would work. It wasn't til later I found that D: was actually the one corrupted because of when I broke the mirror from C: to D: it corrupted some files with it, I also had the same problem with windows installing and saying welcome then shuts down, I would just recommend cleaning the entire HD and starting from scratch, you'll save a huge clump of time by doing that and less stress on yourself.

Finally I discovered the solution of this annoying shutting down problem. the same problem I faced which was really very exceptional issue. its very easy to guess that faulty power supply but actually its not as I spent 6 hours to find the actual problem. the problem wasn't with power supply, CPU, CPU Heatsink, motherboard, graphics card, BIOS settings, hard drive, dvd drive or any other componets but apart from the most important and common component of any system which is Memory (RAM). the freaking RAM was causing that shutting down problem while windows 7 tries to load up. it was really very hard to think that memory was faulty or its speed was incompatible for the motherboard. when I changed current memory (555 MHz) to 444 MHz or 800 MHz, my windows 7 loads very well without giving any problem. so guys you can try to change your current memory speed to 444 MHz (PC2-4200U) or 800 MHz PC2-6400 if this same case for your motherboard. best of luck guys:)

I had the same problem today and I had a feeling it was a problem with overheating. I removed the heat sync andcleaned it and put down fresh heat paste and it loaded windows without a hitch.
