I realize that. But if you have another PC's preinstalled XP OEM license it cannot be used on this PC to qualify for 8 Upgrade, which is why I asked if you have retail XP.

Since retail XP can migrate anywhere then you can also move Win8 upgrade anywhere you want, even if XP is never installed.

But once you have activated Win8 then under the EULA you should not use XP for as long as you are using it to qualify for Win8 upgrade.

Let us know how it goes.

Slow just doesn't start to describe it.

I set up an account with outlook.com

Apparently the best way to get from outlook express to outlook is through an IE add on

Move your mail and contacts to your new PC - Microsoft Windows

I had mails going back to 2003, over 7000 in fact. It was a slow laborious process to get them up. In fact It was so slow and kept losing the server, I dumped a lot. I will probably never need them, but being able to go back has saved the day a few times.

Now I find that quite often outlook can't be accessed right away.

Is there something akin to outlook express I could get where the mails would actually be on my pc like before.?

A lot is in flux with Office 2013 moving to the web, but I believe this is still supported and remains the successor to Outlook Express:

Windows Mail: setting up an account from start to finish

I've never used it as I prefer web mail which provides as much storage as I'll ever need.

Personally, I ditched Windows Mail some time ago - it crashed and lost data way too often for my liking!
After the third time of having to recover over 200,000 emails and newsgroup posts, I decided enough was enough, and now use Forte Agent.
