Yeah I wouldn't really consider anything you said to be bashing either. It's perfectly acceptable to have some skepticism after the disaster that was named Windows Vista.

I'm sure many people will be skeptical after Vista's public image debacle. I'm a bit jaded however, when I see someone give negative comments, because I remember how many would bash Vista because Jay Leno made fun of it, and not because they've actually tried it. I'm always jaded when I see negative comments next to any product that a person hasn't used. That's why reviews sites, like the one I linked to, are so important. Even more important, is the need to check many of them, and not just stick to one.

However, with something like an OS, there's no better way than to install and run it yourself. The 90 day trial of RTM makes that an option for everyone, as 90 days is plenty of time to get a handle on an OS.

The best advice I could give to the OP would be, is this. Forget what you you know about Windows if XP is the last version you've dealt with. The game has completely changed, and for the better. We may have some minor disagreements with game performance, but keep in mind, many places are already declaring Windows 7 the winner, and it hasn't been publicly released, as of yet. That means the hardware vendors haven't been under any real pressure to put out their best drivers. We are very close to the release, so don't be surprised if performance takes a jump within the next 4 to 6 weeks.

ha ha deacon

im laughing so hard. well god made butt plugs and hynda's and yugos and gm and chrysler and many more products. i read reviews or talk to folks with first hand experiences.. and well. i have no need and never will buy butt plugs yugos hynda's gm's or chrysler's either.

im not going to waste my money just to prove skeptics wrong. i have to save and go hungry for anything i buy. id rather go with the 7 out of 10 that say dont buy versus the 2 or 3 that say its just the best thing since butter any day.

any way

i got my answer. im going to use my oem xp. tho i will have to i guess first nuke my system and install the oem xp and then fresh install w7. so i can save my xp retail key.. i will save what i need to off this system. and just do a basic quick install of the oem xp. i will not even let windows update it. i will register it and then install w7.

i still think i need to find some w7 tweaking programs. im almost sure ive seen them. ive pretty much already looked into needed security and what programs i have that will not work with w7 or 64bit any way..

and ya. i will have to install and use w7 for a while to see what i need or like. and maybe have to reinstall a few times to get it like i want it.. id guess it is some general install guides.. but. i cant know what i need or want until i install and use it.. i do know i want it as lean as possible..

thanks folks.. see ya..

That's why the 90 day free trial of the final code is such a great idea. It doesn't cost a thing, besides the cost of a blank DVD, and you get a nice period of time to fully evaluate it.

You really don't need any tweaking programs with Windows 7. They do exist, but many of them are even listed in the software area as causing issues. The main enthusiast slogan for tweaking Vista and Windows 7 has been "leave it alone". As for security, I can't recommend Microsoft Security Essentials enough. It places at or near the top in detection rates, uses very little resources, scans quickly, and is completely free. It's also now final...no longer in beta.
