It should not effect OS X in any way, in terms of performance. Parallels I believe is basically a virtual machine (I could be wrong, never checked). Not something you want to use if you intend to play games.

Hi mac7 - I haven't tried this myself on account on not having the right (read: correct) apple hardware.
But If I had, then the BootCamp method seems to be the way to achieve this. This is in fact a true dual boot and is NOT a virtual drive.

I DO recomend however the following:

    1. Read the tutorial (and the forum comments) thoroughly it may save you a lot of hassle
    2. Get hold of a REAL windows 7 installation disk. Or at least a copy of the FINAL RELEASE. The tutuorial link provided by Valtonray (?) uses the W7 Beta.
    3. Also: IF you use an "illegal" copy of W7 you also need a Windows 7 Loader which let you choose a real vendor Liscense -thus making W7 legal. In my experience the 7Loader does the trick very neatly (Releaselog | RLSLOG.net 7Loader Release 4-Orbit30)

Again I haven't tried it this way but it's no reason it shouldn't be a walk in the park :)
After all we are able to make OSX work on a non-mac machine - and believe me - That is NO
    walk in the park...

    Good Luck !

How about dual booting OSx and windows 7 in something other than a mac? There are some features of OS-X that I really like, but the hardware in my $900 laptop would cost almost $3000 if I bought a MacBook Pro with the same specs.

I'm trying to install osx using kalyway 10.5.2 on an AMD hp tx2500 series tablet but I can't get started because I can't find the chameleon JMicron 1.0.11 patch that it seems that I need. It is even missing from the Chameleon website.

Obviously when I try the install without it it just get stuck. Does anyone know where to get this file or if there is any updated distro or chameleon package that I should be using instead for this machine?

isn't this still against apple's EULA?
I think everyone who has done this has made the point clear.

"We don't care". Apple wants to charge outrageous prices for their hardware, fine. They can do that while I run OS X on my HP Laptop.
Could you tell me how you were able to install OS X?? I appreciate your help. Thanks, Lucas

Unfortunately I cannot tell you where to find these things. A google search however should pull up what you need.

If you want to learn how to install OS X on a PC I suggest reading up on some threads at insanelymac.com's forums.

    1. In disk management, assign a drive letter for your 200MB hidden partition.
Could you please tell me how to do that!
