Windows 7: How do I slim down Windows 7?

Use the Add/Remove windows components control panel applet to remove stuff you dont want.

Alternatively if you are doing this in the future, you can create an image of the system using ImageX and then use DISM to remove packages/programs offline to reduce the size.

actually you'll likely lose hard disk space if you use add/remove components. At least that's what happened to me. The Winsxs folder wasted even more space afterwards.

That's what I thought when my hard drive started filling up even more when I tried to remove some components.

Slimming Windows 7

Hi, if you are really interested in slimming down Win 7 and are willing to put in the work, there is a guide on the Vlite forums for doing do, there are 3 different versions to choose from: Lite, Extreme & Media.
