Which is lightest of the windows 7 versions? SOLVED!

I just got a small 8" netbook that has the 1.6ghz atom CPU and 1gb ram, it had XP on it but its corupt so i want to put win7 on it but i know win 7 wants 2gb or more ram to run good,,, is Windows Starter going to be lighter than home or ultimate? It has 160gb HDD so size/space doesnt matter any

Starter edition is probably the better deal. But 2GBs would be better. Is there no way to add RAM. Check with the Crucial scanner (Maybe in safe mode): Use the Crucial System Scanner software to find out what type of memory is in your computer

I believe that the hardware requirements are the same for all of the retail versions of Win7 (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate).

Starter probably has lesser hardware requirements, but it's normally only available with a netbook or notebook. Do you have a way of acquiring it legally?

Well im installing Starter now,, i used an ISo from digital river and will use my license key from an old netbook i have that is totally fried,, i hope it works,, it should,, so far everythings moving along nicely,, slow but nicely. The XP install was blue screening no matter what i did even whne trying to recover the factory install.
I ran a secure erase, then set up my partitions through diskpart and am now installing W7S.
Should be a nice deal once its all working considering i got the net book for 30 bucks

It will be interesting to know whether that will activate with the key of a defunct different system.

Please please let us know how the activation works out for you. When I RMA my motherboard with the exact same except serial number I had to call Microsoft.

If it doesn`t activate then your buyer has to buy a key from microsoft or you will have to reinstall XP on it. I hope you told him what you did, and he knows that you sold him just a netbook, and he knows he may have to buy 7.

If it activated fine, that`s great. Now keep your fingers crossed for 30 days.
