Logical Disk Manager - Access is denied while shrinking

I an trying to setup dual boot on my inspiron 1545 with vista home basic installed.

I made space, ran perfect disk and got a desirable shrinkable space. Now when i try to shrink volume from my Disk management utility, i get an error that -

Logical Disk Manager - Access is Denied.

How to fix this and create a new partition?

Is there any other way to create another partition to install Windows 7 without using vista's disk manager, by using 3rd party partition managers ?

Are you trying to shrink the OS partition from with in it?

Are you trying to shrink the OS partition from with in it?

Yes, my dell has C: (Vista installed 287Gb) and E: (Recovery 10Gb) so i am trying to shrink C: to create a 100gb space for Windows 7.

Alright, but I don't think it can get any easier than partition wizard. So easy that I'm wondering why there isn't already a checkmark next to the title of this thread (meaning solved).

Ok. Now i have created a new logical partition D: using - partition wizard.

Kindly just confirm that this partition (It being logical and not primary) will be available on setup screen of win7.

yes you should be able to install Windows on a logical partition as long as it has enough free space. If you run setup or boot from the DVD and get to the step where it lists the partitions, you will be able to confirm it for yourself.
