New hard drive - no Windows 7

    Hi,

Toshiba have provided me with a new hard drive as the old (3 month old) hard drive was corrupt. The new hard drive has no OES. I wasn't given a disc when I purchased the laptop and Toshiba are asking me for £30.00 for A Windows 7 download even though the laptop is still under warranty !!. Is there a way of installing 7 without a disc that wont cost a lot. I have my original Windows 7 product key.

I have been looking at Restore,Repair, Recover CD's on ebay for about £5.00. Would these do the job ?

    Many thanks

    Jon

Free would be better, although possibly more work.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I've never done this. I'm not sure whether there are any issues with non-US English.

The tutorial says the way that I would do it. As the previous poster said, post back if you have any questions.

Toshiba replace HDD with OS Pre-installed, under warranty.

       Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.

& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

Thanks for the reply guys. Unfortunately it is my daughters laptop and never got it off her long enough to create a recovery disc - lesson learned for the future !

Not had chance to try out the tutorial yet but with regards to the last point, please can you confirm that under warranty Toshiba should provide a new hard drive with the OS already installed. I have has several battles with them as I cannot believe they are asking me to pay £30.00 whilst it is still under warranty.

    Many thanks !!

Yes, the OS should be reimaged onto the replacement HD so that your PC works out of the box when returned to you.

Ask for a supervisor at Toshiba Tech Support to ask why it wasn't. They may send you the disks.

However be aware that the Factory Recovery reinstalls Win7 that is corrupted by the bloatware, and is really the worst possible install of Win7. So I'd take the time to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 as suggested here, then save a backup image of that in place of Recovery going forward.
