Problem with upgrade of Windows 7

    Hi,

I have my Samsung Laptop which came originally with Windows Starter Edition pre-installed. I bought a new copy of Windows 7 Home Premium in Dubai some time back and have only just got around to putting it on this laptop.

I know it was region restricted but thought I was activate it over the phone. Well when I installed as an upgrade it told me to use Windows Anytime Upgrade which I did. I entered the licence key on the new version and it took some and time and told me it was invalid. However it still upgraded the OS to Home Premium and now is prompting me to activate it.

When I right click on my computer and click activate, I don't get the telephone option. So now I am stuck.

Below are the first 4 digits of the original key and the new key and also a copy of the diagnostic report I got on what is installed:

    Windows 7 Starter Edition pre-installed: FG8TV
    Windows 7 Home Premium: KFHGK

    Both are 32-bit.

    Diagnostic Report is:

    Hi,

Did you attempt activation using the key that ends in -KFHGK?

    Update

    Hi Golden,

Yes that was the key I entered in Windows Anytime Upgrade when it prompted me. It took a few minutes to verify, then said it was not a valid key.

So I cancelled out of it and when I rebooted my laptop later, it had done the upgrade to Home Premium but now I am stuck as cannot activate it and don't get the phone option either.

    Thanks,

    David

OK. It may have something to do with the region restriction, but I don't see anything obvious in the MGADIAG report -- let me ask NoelDP (our activation expert) to have a look at this. Please await his reply.

Ok thanks Golden. That is what I thought, hence I wanted to activate over the phone, as I read on Microsoft Support that you could do this if you had purchased a copy with regional restrictions.

I look forward to hearing from him.

    Thanks

I've asked Noel to have a look - he'll know exactly what can/can't be done.

It's not a situation I've come across before, that I remember.

    Try this

    telephone activation (operator calls)
    Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI 4
    and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks
