Re install windows 7 after new HD install no optical drive

    Hi,
I have an out of warranty hp dv1 notebook with no optical drive (i.e. no recovery software) and a failing hard drive (it clicks an goes to blue screen often). I ordered an SSD drive to replace the failing one, how can I re -install the windows 7 home premium 64 from the failing drive under this scenario?

    Thanks!

You may follow this method to transfer the existing installation to the new SSD, if you like: Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer

But the easiest one is: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

You may make a bootable USB flash stickfor this purpose, following Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool or using WinToFlash.

       Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

I am getting the SSD on Tuesday. I have the restore USB ready, I created it with the hp software on the PC. Just wondering if there are additional steps I need to take or if the recovery USB will format the new drive etc.

Have you looked over the steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is a much better install without he preinstalled HP factory bloatware and duplicate utilties that are the worst in the industry.

If you follow the steps you get a perfect install vs. the worst possible install using the HP preinstalled OS via image or Recovery disks.
