Emachines Mini and Windows 7 Starter

My daughter has an eMachines Mini laptop that has the windows 7 Starter edition on it. Recently it has gone down with no explanation as to why. I've tried everything I can think of so I decided to come here. When you first turn on the eMachine it acts like it's going to boot up but then it goes to a page that displays the following message:

WINDOWS FAILED TO START. A RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGE MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. TO FIX THE PROBLEM:
1. INSERT YOUR WINDOWS INSTALLATION DISC AND RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.
2. CHOOSE YOUR LANGUAGE SETTINGS, AND THEN CLICK NEW.
3. CLICK REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS DISC, CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR OR COMPUTER MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE.

INFO: THE BOOT SELECTION FAILED BECAUSE A REQUIRED DEVICE IS INACCESSIBLE.

The eMachine Mini does not have a disc because it does not have a disc drive. I can't get past this menu no matter what I do. I can restart and get into the boot menu by pushing F12, and I can access the F2 menu. But I can not access anything else. Does anyone have any helpful advice?

Reboot and tap the key given for BIOS setup to see if the HD is detected under Storage devices.

Then reboot and tap F8 key to see if you can access System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair or if that fails System Restore.

If not boot into the Win7 installer written to a flash stick from Step 5 in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start to run Startup Repair to see if it finds anything to repair. If not start at the top of the steps using the bootable flash stick alternatives for bootable AV scan, Partition Wizard and other disks needed.

Okay, none of what you suggested is going to work because it wont let me into any menu that isn't F2 or F12. I cant boot anything up. This is an eMachine mini, there is no button given for the BIOS. I turn the laptop on and it goes through the motions but instead of booting up I get a black page with error messages but it doesn't stay up long enough to read it, then the other page comes up. I can't access anything on it. F8 doesn't work, no BIOS key...???

Tapping F2 vigorously at reboot should enter BIOS setup, while F12 should bring up a Boot menu to choose the Win7 installer to do repairs mentioned earlier, F8 should access Repair console. The timing may be off missing the window of opportunity as is the case 90% of the time they fail to work.

Burn to CD Partition Wizard which should boot itself to view the HD so that we can check its flags are set correctly. Post back a camera snap if possible. Then run Partition Wizard Partition surface test and Partition Wizard Check File System followed by Partition Wizard Rebuild MBR - Video Help.

Likewise Paragon Rescue Kit Free Edition 11.0 Free will boot itself to rescue files.

If you cannot reset the CMOS to force BIOS to boot a disk then you can wipe the HD after rescuiing your files which should force the WIn7 installer to autostart from flash stick. Partition Wizard Wipe Disk - Video Help.

So from here what do I need to do because there aren't a lot of options.

Now I'm in the Boot Manager and I'm seeing, BOOT OPTION MENU

1. Network Boot: Atheros Boot Agent
2. IDE 0: ST9250315AS

I've already tried to boot using both of these and neither one of them work.

I have already given you this step but will repeat it now that you've gotten the F12 BIOS Boot Menu working.

Download and write to 4gb+ bootable flash stick the WIn7 ISO DVD for your licensed version from Step 5 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

It should appear in the F12 boot menu when you reboot, select it, boot into second screen to choose Repair My Computer, then run Startup Repair several times with reboots to see what it finds.

The alternative is to tap the F8 key until you can get it to boot, to try to access Startup Repair on the Repair choice of Advanced Boot Options.

But I'd go ahead and create the bootable installer now since you may need it for future repairs or if necessary to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. You can also rescue your files in Step 10 of the tutorial.

We also know from the serial number in the boot menu that you have a Seagate HD, so it may be necessary to write to bootable flash stick the Seatools Diagnostics to check the HD depending upon what Startup Repair finds: How To Create Bootable USB Disk For Seagate SeaTools For DOS

Boot up using the Startup Repair CD or Windows 7 DVD. (not the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disk) If you have a Netbook, you will need a CD/DVD drive.
NOTE: Make sure no USB drives are plugged in.
Do not use a USB Pendrive for Startup Repair.
