Good .... one less problem to deal with.. Ok.. try making a 10gb partition on your drive and extract/copy the files from the installation DVD to the partition... run setup.exe from there, bypassing the need for the installation media altogether... Personally, I prefer this method and have been doing it this way for years and have never had a probelm.. let us know how it comes out..

spawn786 you still haven't answered whether or not you are using the 64-bit version.

yeah that's all I saw was "ok i m going to try that". I didn't know what that was referring to.

I think maybe we are continuing to try and solve a problem that was already solved by wally on page 1.

hey guys...I am hvaing the exact same issue
windows 7 installed fine on my laptop
and I am trying to install now on dell dimension 5100
the machine passed the installation compatability test with no issues
it installs normally then when it restarts to complete installation I get the Windows Starting screen - but it never changes and the windows logo does not appear either
I have tried both 32 & 64 bit versions - same result with both versions

I did upgrade the dvd drive so it is not the machine's default hardware - but it works fine with everything else
is this a drive issue? - I am planning on trying the partition installation as suggested earlier in this post and I will reply with my results
any other suggestions though would be appreciated
