The error when you booted from XP CD was due to lack of SATA drivers, remedied by installing in IDE mode.
I thought you wanted to install Win7. The steps will get Win7 installed if you'd prefer having a modern OS.

Yes i did but before i got to a place with wifi to download win 7, i found an original windows XP disk which i succeeded to install. I installed XP first since i could then use my win 7 dvd and install it from the desktop.
I am now busy downloading a 64bit version of win 7 because the old one i had on the dvd is only 32bit and cant use all my ram.
Another thing, when I switch the settings in the BIOS back to sata, i get a bsod again.
Is it important to change it back to sata or doesnt it matter?
Leave the SATA controller setting at IDE and install Win7 following the steps I gave earlier.
