    Windows 7 files are corrupt

Hi there, I turned on my desktop today to find that my installation of Windows 7 has become corrupt. My system 32 files are not working correctly. I am able to login, but only after clicking "OK" on an error message that says ""LogonUI.exe - Entry Point Not Found, The procedure entry point RegQueryValueExW could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNALBASE.dll" several hundred times. As i continually click "OK' i quickly try to type my password in a deformed looking text box. My desktop loads, but only with a cursor, a black background & the windows 7 testing text on the botton right corner. My applications & services seem to be running because my Norton 360 security popped up saying it is running its daily tasks as it ussually does. Ctrl-Alt -Delete works, but confronts me with same the error message that i got in the logon screen. After I click "OK" another several times i managed to click the task manager tab which did absolutely nothing. The shortcut keys also appear to do nothing. I tried loading in the Windows 7 disc to do an "Upgrade Installation", but sadly the autoplay function did not load. I am stuck with no other option in view. I absolutely cannot do a "Clean Installation". I would lose many important files. What should i do inorder to solve my problem. From what i've read Windows 7 does not have a repair function similar to the XP disc. Thats a very big dissapointment, but will not deter me from buying Windows 7. If possible it would be great to see that feature on the final release. Thanks in advance.

I have to ask do you have a backup we can restore from?

do you have a win 7 dvd to do a repair install from?

have you tried booting into safe mode (F8 repeatedly at boot)?

I do not have a backup image, but i do have the DVD which i booted by pressing F8. I searched, but I did not see a Windows repair function. System Restore failed to work. Is their a repair function which I did not notice?

good news i got the command prompt working. Is their anyway to boot my windows dvd from the cmd in order to do a repair install from the dvd?

I would love to do that, but i have no GUI in order to run the CD. Is there any other way? ok so i used a sfc /scannow command prompt and got the gui working again. some files are still corrupted so i am going to do an upgrade. is there anything i should know before continuing?

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

I would suggest to make a backup of all your important files/data, if the OS current state allows, before you do anything to your OS. If there are any problems with the upgrade your files are at risk. It is best to keep you backups on a different physical HD, an external HD is a good choice, if your hard drive fails then you will loose everything. Although a backup kept anywhere is better than none.

If the upgrade doesn't completely repair your OS then you should consider doing a custom/clean install. This is the best way to get it 100% functional.

Win7 has a backup feature check the tutorial:

How to Create a System Image Backup in Windows 7

You can find several free backup programs that will do the job for you. This Seven Forums site has an extensive list of free programs that work with Windows 7.

FREE Great Programs for Window 7

    Among others you will find:

    Macrium Reflect

I recommend to keep your personal data/files in a separate partition. If you have any OS problems it's easier to repair or re-install the OS without risking your personal files.

You can do this after you repair the OS. You should be able to do this from Disk Management:

How to Create a New Partition or Volume in Windows 7

    Another good free partition manager:

    Partition Wizard

Let us know how it turns out.
