How to keep location data of my doc(on sep HD) after fresh OS install?

I have a bit of a problem, i need to do a fresh install of windows as i have purchased a new MOBO, and would like some pointers on how to keep my Location data for "MY Documents" as i have changed it because they are on a seperate HD.

Will Windows recognise that there is An existing User file on another HD or will i have to go through the registry again to change the location?

I just want to do this with as little hasstle as possible.

Thanks in advance

If you're doing a Clean Reinstall then you'll need to move the Documents folder to it's other location using the steps in User Folders - Change Default Location.

However there is another method that resolves some issues faced with moving User folders to another drive, i.e. being forced to include the data partition in System image because it's now deemed a System drive. So you might first want to include the remote Documents folder in it's Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums and set it as the default Download location, to see how that works for you instead.

I think you misunderstood slightly,

I havr already edited the registry and moved my User folder onto the second HD, I am soon about to do a fresh install on my OS SSD but was wondering if I will be able to somehow save the settings so that I don't have to go and change all the regostry settings again.

Sorry I wasn't really clear the first time.

Hope this is a better explanation.

I understood and replied to your question: Since you're reinstalling the new OS will not have those changes and will need to have the Documents folder moved again per User Folders - Change Default Location.

I also gave you an alternative method using Libraries that keeps the other data drive from being turned into a System partition simply because it has one User folder moved to it.

Ah I see, thank you.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

Looks like I will just have to bite the bullet and move them properly. Lol

No shortcuts.
