    According to the Microsoft forum:
The error 0x80070017 translates to "CRC Error" which means that the files that are being copied from the disk are not making it to the hard drive with the same structure, meaning that the "original" files on the disk are being modified/changed/corrupted while being copied to the "destination" location on your hard drive during the install.
This usually means either a bad DVD, or a read error on the DVD drive.

Are you using retail media, a home-burned DVD or a USB stick?

The dvd might be scratched, then. You may want to see if you can get replacement media from Dell.

Question: If his physical media that he is going to create the USB key from is scratched, how is this going to help him?

Mike the version comes form what I think has to ea server so no scratches etc:)

Click on the link in the first pic and then when you get to the listings go down to the English versions and pick the version you have got don't try getting Ultimate if you have Home for instance because the activation code you have will only activate the version you have already. Make sure you have that code ready it should be on the Microsoft sticker,

If you cannot read it an app called Speccy you can download and it will tell you what tha cod is under operating system.

    Speccy - Standard

Use the installer provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
sticking closely with the steps to get and keep perfect install.

There are notes at the end for Dell Users about deleting your Recovery partition during install which will not run afterwards, but keeping the Dell Diagnostics Tools partition which I would run now to confirm the hardware: Dell Diagnostics Utility - How to Run the.

If for some reason it won't run from boot then you can delete all partitions during install as shown in Clean Install Windows 7 Step 7.
