    New Build & Drives

Hello folks, not been here for a while due to medical stuff, am fine now as evidenced by the following burst of activity:

I attach details of a new build that I am currently working on. I have backed-up my original system to my NAS and to a 32GB USB key. I would be grateful for advice.
I have a Full Retail, genuine copy of Windows 7/64 bit to transfer from donor to new build. I have transferred contents of 'E' drive to 'C' drive, then cloned 'C' to 'E', using Macrium, which I recommend for its simplicity and ease of use.
I intend to install clone 'E' to the new build, leaving the SSD Ready Cache, and 1 TB. Hard drive, unplugged, to be plugged in and setup later, to avoid any drive letter problems.
Can I install 'E' to new system (which will become 'C' in the new build) and expect Windows 7 to work in the new system, without problems? I have my COA from the original retail disc and will format the 'C' drive remaining in the old system, thus removing Windows from that machine. I understand the fact that the new system is quite different hardware to the old, but don't know if this will affect Activation.
I am aware that the Hdd spinners are SATA2, these are from my old system and may be replaced at a later date.
    Many thanks for any assistance.

Bertison, I don't think you will have any activation problem. If you do just use the phone method

As the new MOBO's now have a uEFI/BIOS firmware.
How to install Windows 64 bit on a uEFI/BIOS firmware:
UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with
    or
UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 8 with

I would just like to add, for anyone using the same mobo/Alpenföhn CPU cooler combination, that there is a problem. The RAM lower socket (nearest to CPU) cannot be used with this cooler, because the fins project slightly to prevent it being fitted. No problem for me, I have enough memory at (2x4 GB) in the other two sockets. Note that this is not a Height factor of the RAM, but a Width factor.

If the image isn't UEFI then it might not transfer if your board is UEFI. You'd at least need an imaging app that can handle the change.

Better to get a perfect Clean Reinstall which steps are the same for retail, adapting if necessary for UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums .

Let us know how it goes.
