    Laptop shuts off during install

I have a gateway MX6450 laptop. When I try to load Windows 7 RC1 on it, the following happens: Right after the "loading files" bar finishes the second pass, the laptop shuts off. I've tried both 32 and 64 bit versions from dvd and usb stick. It's not a heat issue because I was able to run stress tests on it without a problem.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

You need AC to install Win7, if it's running on battery alone, it won't install. But that doesn't sound like the problem. You could try a repair, F8 on bootup and see what that turns up. Posting system specs in your profile will be helpful.

This is strange, I have setup around 7 machines with rc 32 or 64 version and they were from different manufacures with different configurations but did not have installation problems.

My suggestion would be to check for memory resident viruses but not from within windows but from bootup linux cd, nowadays lot of antivirus vendors offer free linux cd for this kind of scans and if possible update bios and report back here

I would check your BIOS to make sure there is no sleep mode or shutdown in the power config there. Even tho you are running off of a power cord there might be some setting in there that will still put the laptop to sleep or off.

There aren't any power settings in BIOS aside from dimming lcd when on battery power. Tried disabling that...still no dice
