Idiot installing Windows 7 Ultimate BSOD/nvidia drivers

    Hi,

I hope someone can help me, I'm not overly techy so I've give you as much info as I can. Trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on brand new pc with this spec:

    Intel® Core 2 Quad Q8300
    Motherboard: Asus P5P43TD (Intel P43 chipset, 4x DDR3, PCI-E 2.0)
    Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333mhz (2x 2GB)
    Hard Drives: 500GB S-ATAII 3.0Gb/s
    Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 1GB
    Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
    PSU: 400W
    Monitor: Viewsonic VX2260wm lcd display

Initially I got quite a way through the installation then it came up with an error saying the computer closed unexpectedly and had to restart to continue installation. I had got my monitor connected to the nvidia gt 9500 via divX. Said Ok, pc shut down, then restarted with exactly the same message. Read up on the Net and said that it could be the nvidia card, so got to device manager and removed drivers so it had to use standard vga drivers and switched to the vga connection on the graphics card (I dont' have onboard graphics on my motherboard).

Well, now it doesn't have the old problem it has a new one. I am booting straight from the dvd drive and it lets me get to the Windows install page, I select custom install and it gets to anything between 2 and 72% of expanding the files (second stage on list) and then it blue screens with various errors. the last one being this:

    STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x81851844, 0x86914B04, 0x00000000)

    fltmgr.sys address 81851844 base at 81848000. Datestamp: 4a5bbf11

Have tried ringing the tech support from where I got the pc but they say they don't support windows 7 yet. CD that has come with the pc for the motherboard says that it is windows 7 ready (but that probably doesn't mean anything).

Any help would be very much appreciated as it is driving me insane. Like I said I'm not a techy so treat me gently please!

    Thanks very much.

Hi powerjen ... welcome to the forums... Navigate to c:/windows/minidump and zip up the .dmp files and upload them for analysis...

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've just rebooted and now it says bootmgr is missing. Have put in the windows 7 disk (rebooted again) and it's taken me to the windows 7 installation page. NOt sure what to do now - maybe try another install?

Can I get the dump off the pc? I have a dvd writer but I'll need to take the windows 7 cd out to swap it over and write to it? Sorry, I'm not great at these things and find it hard with no operating system on it!

Ok I've found out how to fix the bootmgr issue. Now to navigate to the minidump? Can I do it in DOS?

I don't have explorer and not sure I can do it in Dos to be honest - just cause I don't know how. Feel free to give up on me now!!

I tried another install for the hell of it and it blue screened and said at the top:

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Then gives me more error numbers at bottom of page the first one being 0x0000000A

    Thanks for your perseverence.

    Hi,

What OS was installed when you got your new computer?

Any AV loaded? If yes then disable it for the install.

The IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL code means it's trying to references an incorrect location in memory.

It might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version.

STOP: 0x0000008E indicates a possible BIOS issue.
Have you checked that the latest BIOS is installed?

Are all peripherals devices disconnected? Leave only monitor, keyboard and mouse.

    Let us know your progress.

    HI Dave

Thanks for the reply. The pc had no operating system as I had been given windows 7 ultimate and so I bought the base unit ready to have the OS installed on it. Asus motherboard is supposed to be windows 7 ready. SO I figured I'd just put the disk in and away I'd go. There is therefore nothing else on the pc at all and I can't get access to anything as I have no OS to let me get to anything.

Have just got monitor, through vga basic cable connected, keyboard and mouse through usb's. Had got a wireless one conencted initially and monitor through divx but not anymore. HAve disabled graphics card (nvidia) as it seemed as though that was an issue too and have at least stopped that issue where it would just reboot and take me round in a loop, but now it gives me random bsod messages every time.

I've tried to reboot without the windows disk in and everytime I try now it says that the bootmgr is missing. I go in via the windows disk, do f10 and type bootrec /fixboot, says it's fixed it and yet it just says the same thing everytime I log in. Getting really frustrated, Help!

Use your Win7 installation disk and do a Startup Repair.

Run it a couple times and see if it will fix the bootmgr.

If it is a retail copy, you are entitled to MS excellent tech support. At least it was excellent when awhile back they spent 40+ hours helping diagnose, reinstall, optimize an old Gateway with a retail copy of XP on it. I got a full education for the price of that XP Home.

Startup repair may need to run several times. It never seems to work if it is offered to you right off the bat after clicking Repair my Computer - choose it from the options list. Also, try both key commands for replacing the boot: "bootrec.exe /fixboot" and "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" which have worked for me many times when startup repair doesn't.
