Windows 7: Manufacturer Splash Screen needed to access Acer eRecovery Managment

Manufacturer Splash Screen needed to access Acer eRecovery Managment

I have an Acer Aspire 5552. I actually own 2 of them. One of them I bought myself, my grandparents bought the second one to learn how to use computers, gave up, and subsequently gave it to me.
The problem is this - they claim the lan port was fried by lightning hitting their house and traveling through their dsl connection, through the cat5, to the port. I find this unlikely but in device manager there is no
network adapters present. Neither lan nor wireless. I have tried installing the drivers but have not had any luck. I suspect damage to the OS, but cannot be certain. I am actually online via a usb to ethernet adapter on this machine.

The Acer eRecovery Managment tool is not working. It just says "stopped working" when it is launched, and nothing happens. In an older thread, I found the method for accessing ot before windows starts. Here are the steps as pointed out by a poster -

Here is the standard Acer Recovery Instructions

1. Power on the machine
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the “Alt” key and press the “F10” key simultaneously to
start Acer eRecovery
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click “Restore to Factory Default Settings”
4. Click “OK” to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press “OK” to reboot unit

Not only does my machine not display a "white BIOS" screen at startup, similar tutorials, including one that comes from Acer said to do this on the Acer splash screen, Which I have neither.

Is there a way to enable the splash screen to see if I can catch it there and try the alt+f10 method?
Ive looked through the BIOS itself for any function to enable these things, however, I did not find any.
When my system boots, it's a black screen with a non-blinking cursor for a second or so and then Windows starts to boot right away.

any help would be helpful - I have used the recovery manager on my own machine several times and it is a wonderful tool. I do not know what my grandparents did to this machine, but other than not being able to access a lan port, or wireless client (cause they simply are not there, and drivers wont install), the machine is working properly, I would however like to fix this issue to see if the erecovery tool can fix my lan issues.

Type Troubleshoot in Start Search box, click on Troubleshooting, then Network, then Network Adapters to troubleshoot the Ethernet adapter.

The factory preinstall is a grossly inferior install, the worst possible install of WIn7 one can have. That's why most tech enthusiasts will not run such an install but instead do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything needed is in the link to experience for the first time real Win7 performance on those machines.

In your case have the ethernet cable plugged in during install to see if the driver is provided. If not install it to get online and run all Important and Optional Windows Updates to completion, after enabling Device Installation Settings (Option 3).

If ethernet won't work then plug in the wireless adapter and load its driver to do all Updates.
