    oxc00000e9 boot error

I recently reinstalled my Win 7 Home Prem OS using the original install disk I received when i bought Win 7 about 4 years ago.The reinstall went in smoothly and although i didnt format the hard drive my desktop seemed to work properly. Unfortunately i had to install 156 Windows updates after the OS install but i didn that and thought everything was ok. All of this was about a week ago. After the install i burned a repair disc as well.

A few days ago when i turned on my PC it didnt boot up . I finally tried everything from F8 to F2 and then ran the repair program which seemed to work and my pc booted up. The next day when i turned it on...same thing...wouldnt boot...i finally put the repair disc in and got it to boot up ,but in subsequent i still couldnt get it to boot up without the repair disc which told me that the repairr disc didnt repair the system files problem but just provided me with a way to get my PC running.
Each day in past 3-4 days it has become increasingly harder to get the PC to boot up with the repair disc. I have also run Sys Restore which didnt help...maybe i didnt go back far enough in selecting the restore date... but Sys Restore has always worked magic for me in the past so i dont know what to think about that.

Today after trying everything i could think of to get it started i received the Error message noted in this thread...OxcOOOOOe9...so i googled it and found this thread. I also found a similar thread on another website which talked about the possibility of hardware failure. my box is 4 1/2 years old and has been heavily used over that time. It is a custom box and when i went back to my invoice to see the brand of HD and DVD drive...it didnt contain the brand names. I was going to go to their website and check for updated drivers or a hardware test i could run but having no brand names im not sure how else i can do that.
My BIOS version is American Megatrends date...10-29-08 so i figure maybe my BIOS are out of date and an update might help solve the problem???????
I could change out the HD or DVD myself if that is the problem, but dont want to spend the money because i am thinking seriously thinking about buying a new desktop pc in the immediate future.

I looked at my device manager and all hardware is working properly if that means anything. Also checked and all drivers are shown as current.

I could format the hard drive and reinstall Win 7 64 bit OS if you computer technical folks think that would help even though i hate to resort to that.

Thanks very much for any help anyone can provide.

    Check all cables and connections.

Install CrystalDiskInfo - Software to read the SMART data off your HD, which is a strong indicator of its condition.

If Win7 will remain stable work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 starting with the other hardware tests to test the RAM, and especially if the HD has issues do the bootable HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

If Win7 is unstable work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start, to test for infection, system file integrity, even run a Startup Repair to check over the boot files.

Compare the install you did to the steps for getting a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are same for retail. You may want to do the install over to get it perfect.

i have tried several of the items you suggested but no luck so far.I ran the test of my hard drive and the results were ..health status..GOOD..TEMP..34C. At least i know my HD is a Hitachi..
Ran the malwarebytes and it showed 122 problems all of which i removed...Revised the start menu several times...no help.

I cant figure any rhyme or reason for this problem. Every time i boot it up something always finally works to get it booted after which it runs fine in all respects. This last time i tapped F8 and tried ...Last known configuration that worked ...and it booted right up.

I have just had a family emergency so i wont be able to work on this as intensely as i usually do. I need to go through the clean install steps ...definitely more than i did when i recently reinstalled the OS.
My DVD drive is also fine as i downloaded a disc from it just as a check on whether it worked properly.

So i guess my problem is a software problem and when if ever i will solve it is anybody's guess. Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. I appreciate it.:)

You had 122 infections found by Malwarebytes (which only finds the most serious infections) and can't figure out what is wrong? That would be one of the worst infections we've seen here.

Your Win7 was so eaten by infection that it's hardly worth an attempt to salvage the OS because even if cleaned up the effects would never be fully overcome. Did you run MB full scan again to see if it got everything, then SFC /SCANNOW Command to see how bad the damage is?

I would closely follow the steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which collect everything that works best to get and keep a perfect install.

Most important is to delete all partitions during booted Custom install, using the Drive Options shown in Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7.

Also it shows you how to put your network driver in your backup so if it isn't provided during install you can install it to get online to run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates, after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3). Only after all rounds of Updates are done should you then import any drivers which are missing in Device Manager.

I was shocked by the number of infections ,too. Historically i have run Malwarebytes , CCleaner and a couple of other utilities on a regular basis, but not since i reinstalled the OS so it tells me that all of those infections must have happened in the last two weeks. A lesson learned for sure.
Now my printer just stopped printing, too.
Would i be better off to just format the hard drive and then do a fresh install of Windows . i am pretty close to deciding on just buying a new desktop which i was considering before all these problems started. I am happy to put in all the work of trying to rehab this PC but dont know what i will have when i am finished. It is 4 1/2 years old and doesnt run as fast as it used to. My processor is an amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 6000+ and it runs DDR2 800mhz ram. I would really appreciate your opinion.
Over the past 13 years i have always been able to fix my pc even though it sometimes took a long time, but this time I guess i am really in way over my head since everything i try doesnt seem to work . Guess i will reinstall my printer software to see if that will work.
Thanks for your continuing help. I realize i am becoming a project.

I just told you exactly how to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.'

Why would you ask me if you should do that?

My old PC's run just as fast as my new ones. If you have adequate RAM (2gb+) then a perfect install will run as well as a new PC, which have the atrocious Windows 8 that has ruined the desktop experience MS built itself upon.

Hi BEARCATJER I can only see that their are three choices.
    1. Do as Greg has suggested in post #5
    2. Buy a new computer
    3. Do both
What active anti virus program have you been using?

I use AVG for anti virus and also Microsoft Security Essentials.
I will try to follow the steps for a fully clean install but im not sure i know how to do all of them.Nothing to lose if I am unsuccessful i guess. Sounds like i dont really need a new pc if i can get this one fixed. It does have room for 4gb more of ram ,too.

I wouldn't use both AVG and MSE. AVG isn't much recommended since it bloated up awhile back, but MSE is the near-unanimous recommendation from those of us who've been with Win7 since beta.

You'll need a special tool to uninstall AVG as with other bloatware AV's: AVG | Download tools and utilities

However if you're proceeding with the Clean Reinstall then the tools which work best with Win7 are all there and sequenced for easiest install.
