Upgraded Dad's Computer to 7, now it won't boot correctly

Hiya guys,

Like the title says, yesterday I upgraded my dad's oldest office computer from Windows Vista Home Premium x32 to Windows 7 Ultimate x32. The installation went fine, although it did take quite a bit of time. When the installation finally finished, we got to the loading bar screen, then a mouse appeared, then it took us to System Recovery options. Automatic startup repair didn't work, it won't recognize our back-up hard-drive and we literally can't do anything. Fortunately my dad has a few other computers at work and he was going to just use this one as an extra, but I'd like to fix it.

Is my only option to somehow re-install Vista and restore? Or is there something I can do to keep 7 on there?

Some specs on that computer would help someone to try and help you.

It's an eMachines desktop from around 2005. I'll have more detailed specs when I can get to the computer again, sorry

That old a machine may not even be able to run Win 7, even the 32 bit OS.

That's what i thought, but my dad wanted me to try. Should I try to go back to Vista?

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums.
To help us help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's how: System Info - See Your System Specs
Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built.

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.
After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts. Click on mine in the lower left to see how it should look.

Do you have any Vista restore discs? Is the product key (don't post it) still visible and readable?

You should have run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Vista which would have told you exactly how it will run and why.

Before you do anything further report back the PC's model number from the eMachines sticker on the back or side. We'll then tell you whether and how you can install Win7 on it or go back to Vista.

Because you probably didn't boot the installer to correctly install Win7 deleting all partitions, you may have a windows.old folder that can be rolled back to Vista, or the Recovery partition may even still boot and run to reinstall Vista.

But Win7 may in fact run on that PC, as it does fine on a 8 year old T5234 I have. If so we'll help you get a perfect install. Look over these same steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Waiting for the model number...
