I noticed my current 128gb ssd is almost full (os&programs). So i have ordered a new one, the samsung 840 evo 250gb. my question is when I install my dvd copy of 7 pro on the new drive, will the key work even though it is installed on the old ssd?
Yes it will work without any problem. But you could also transfer your current system to the new SSD.

PS: I am a bit curious though how you could have filled a 128GB SSD. My systems and a healthy selection of programs never exeed 30GB. My user data is on a spinning disk though.
My computer says 30 free of 119, so not completely full, yet. I have corel draw, photoshop CS6 extended, lightroom, and some other various programs all residing on the 120. I have changed the library folder locations as well to my 1tb. Since this is my first build, I'm pretty new to configuring the system properly for use with ssd's and hdd's. So as a result my lack of knowledge probably has resulted in a fuller drive than needed.lol.
I always make some room on my SSDs by eliminating the hiberfile. The command is powercfg -h off. That saves you as many GBs as the size of your RAM. I also reduce the pagefile to 2GBs. Those 2 operations save me 14GBs on the SSD with my 8GBs of RAM.
The program files I would not move to the spinner. That defeats the purpose of the SSD. I do, however, always move my own files (Documents, Pics, Music and Videos) to the spinners. On a laptop with only 1 disk bay that is of course not possible. But with a USB3 or eSata attached external disk, the userfiles can very well be moved to an external disk.

I don't know why anyone would want to do without the modern Hibernate function which makes Win7 effortless to walk away from without a second thought as to when one is coming back.
This is not IMO a reason to avoid getting a sizeable enough SSD. Why would one turn off one of the most beneficial features of Win7, and one which is perfected finally in Win7?
Hibernate is certainly a matter of personal preference. I myself have never used it and have never seen a need to use it. Sleep mode does nearly the same job but I never stop in the middle of a task.
The problem with Sleep is that it keeps power to the RAM so if you go away for weeks it has powered RAM the whole time. Hibernate saves your work but actually shuts down the PC so you don't have to think about it.
