Jumping from XP to Win 7

    Hi guys,

Just a quick question about the upgrading from XP to Win 7.

Can you go from Windows XP Professional to Win 7 home? or would I need to buy Windows 7 Pro upgrade package?

Welcome to the Se7en Forums! grumbob.

Unfortunately you may not like the actual answer to the question you have as far as what upgrade path if any is available to go from XP to 7. I'm afraid the information seen in the upgrade chart shows "custom install" across the chart as far as XP is concerned being not the previous version of Windows but the second previous version instead. Upgrade Install with Windows 7

The recommendation you will hear most often at SF is to simply plan on performing a clean install of 7 which holds true when first going with any newer version then the one you are running. If you were running Vista Home Premium then you could perform an upgrade to the 7 Home Premium.

For Vista Business then you would go to the 7 Professional edition as far as an upgrade path available. The best thing for you now however is to refer to the guide there to get you started off on the right footing.

Because it's a clean install you can get any version you'd like, it's totally your choice
