Roddy, to answer your original question upgrade or retail. I think if you can afford it go for the full retail version. it will save you alot of headaches in the future when you have to reinstall due to equipment failure or upgrades.

The official quote that I read is that nag popups start appearing in March and everythings stops in June.

General Discussion
No problems with USB install for Win7 RC7100
I had device driver problems when installing Windows7 RC7100 from DVD so I setup a bootable USB drive. Follow these instructions. Plug the drive into your PC. Open a command prompt as administrator. Get the drive number by typing: diskpart list disk
