    Digital River downloads?

In our household we have two students, and so ordered a copy of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Home Premium in both x64 and x86 versions - a total of 4 products from Digital River.

Having used their download manager to download these files, I now have 6 files: 4 .exe files (as expected) plus 2 files named setup1.box and setup2.box.

The .exe files are, however, only just over 70KB each, setup1.box is almost 3GB and setup2.box is 163KB.

Running the Home PRemium versions fails immeditaely, saying it can't find the required files. Running the Pro x64 .exe file starts to build a .iso file ("Unloading the box"), but then fails with an unspecified error.

    Any ideas?

This is breaking on Technet right now:

Microsoft is aware of this Digital River issue and their response will likely unfold there. You can add your issue there for their attention.

Except that I can't sign in to the MS forums until I download a new version of Live Messenger. GRRRR!

Note to anyone who suggests various methods to burn a DVD; this issue is about unpacking the files, not burning them.

[Later] I've now re-downloaded a single version, moved it to another drive, taken full permissions, and run the .exe file in elevated mode. It now gets as far as unpacking setup2.box, then fails saying it can't write to the folder - probably because it has made it RO!

    Create DVD to solve problem...

    See the posts in

Windows 7 Upgrade Emerging Problem: "We are unable to create or save new files...

for solutions to this problem. It worked for me.

I created an ISO file from the unpacked files in expandedSetup and then created a DVD from this image.

Although there are work arounds for this issue, there is also a petition to try to get Digital River to post an actual iso

Hmm so they are downloading an Upgrade .exe since it is supposed to be run from the OS in the first place, then when MS surprises everyone by allowing clean installs booting from the Upgrade installer these purchasers are stuck with no ISO to burn?

How about primary formatting a USB and loading the files in to boot it? This is how I boot installed all of the betas and RC.

You can also create an image file from the file using ImgBurn, I believe, with one button simplicity.

You can make a bootable flash - there is a link to Shawn's tut at the bottom of this tut already.

Make bootable iso from student d/l

Not everyone can boot from usb - or wants to go buy a 4gb stick.

If you read the above tut, and the thread - you will see that error is because after creating the expandedsetup folder - the setup tries to run - if it is 64 bit on a 32 bit system - you get that error.

The expandedsetup folder is fine and can be made into bootable .iso as per the tutorial.

If you can make a bootable dvd from the installation files using imgburn - that actually loads - show me how.
