Activating Windows 7 with retail product key

My question is; are Windows 7 RTM retail product keys locked to a particular installation CD, or can they be used with any retail installation CD? (As long as they haven't been used before or are associated with a different edition of course).
Thanks in advance.

They may be used with any retail installation CD as long as they haven't been used before or are associated with a different edition.

Keys are locked to version (ultimate, pro, etc) but not to a specific dvd.
