Quick question, I did the upgrade from Vista to 7 using the upgrade method. Now I kinda want to reformat, how should I go about this? Can I just use the Windows 7 upgrade disk to reinstall 7, or do I have to reinstall Vista to use the Windows 7 upgrade to reformat?

Just backup your data, insert your upgrade media, reboot and boot to CD, and format your computer through Windows Setup and install

    Hello s7ven,

I used a retail Upgrade Windows 7 version to confirm this tutorial with. I do not know if you will be able to do the same with a HP upgrade kit or not. I suppose that you could try and see though.

Just do not delete the Vista recovery partition while trying so you can use it to do a factory restore back to Vista if needed. If you have not already, then you should also create a set of HP Vista Recovery discs to be extra safe in case the Vista recovery partition is lost some how so you can use the disc instead.

Be sure to back up anything that you do not want to lose before starting. :)

Hello s7ven, just to confirm you can use the HP distributed 7 upgrade disk as described in the tutorial for a clean install.
You may wish to go to the HP drivers & downloads site and download the appropriate windows 7 drivers for your computers make & model if you are going to do a clean install as trying to identify which driver is which on the second disk is very difficult & the 2nd disk was really designed to be run as an in place upgrade

Use the Windows 7 DVD to format reinstall in future.

But a better idea is to save a Win7 Backup Image externally so you never have to reinstall again, just boot the DVD Repair console, select Recover Using An Image, then reimage the HD or a replacement in 15-20 minutes.
