New W7/64 machine: how do I transfer my settings from Vista64?

    Gents,

I'm putting one machine out to pasture and am replacing it with a totally new build.

    Old Machine= Vista64 Ultimate
    New Machine= W7/64 Home Premium

I know that all my programs have to be reinstalled. That's too bad, but I'd rather have a clean, fresh, install.

I've read through a lot of the Windows Easy Transfer tutorials and threads, but haven't found what I was looking for.

How do I transfer my WMP files without losing the DRM rights I have?

Otherwise, I can, I guess, use my network to grab everything I need, such as favorites and email, and other odds and ends. It's going to be a long manual process. Is there a faster way?

    Thanks!

    Ken

If you want a clean install then I would not use WET because it imports AppData settings which are a corruption path into a new install. Better to start over with fresh settings.

The easiest way to back up to make sure you remember everything, as well as steps, tips, tools and methods that assure a perfect install are compiled here in Clean Reinstall and are the same for retail.
