Error 0x80070241

I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I'm trying to upgrade to 7. I bought the college copy so I only have the download, no DVD.

When I get to like 10% of installation I get error 0x80070241, and it says that a file is corrupted or missing and installation cannot continue.

I know everyone hates n00bs who ask questions that have already been answered, and I did google this first (and call Microsoft), but the results I found on google went right over my head and Microsoft was not helpful at all (I shot them off an e-mail thinking I might get better service that way, but they haven't responded yet.)

Anyway, what can I do? I really really want Vista off my computer but it like refuses to die lol.

First off I would suggest downloading the file again then turn it inot a burnable ios dvd.at 2x or 4x burn speed at the most. then set bios to boot from dvd and do a reformatt and a cl;ean install./ Here is how to turn your downloaded file into a burnable ISO Make bootable iso from student d/l

wait so do you have to name the DVD a certain thing for windows to then not think it's illegal?

I too have the student download deal from digitalriver. I am having the same problem. I have downloaded 3 different times to rule out a corrupted download. I have burned it to disc (4 times, 2 different burners at slow speed). Spent hours on the phone with MS today, to have them ultimately tell me that they had exhausted their resources and it must be my computer.

The odd thing is that the computer refuses to boot from disc, no matter what I do. I set it to try DVD-Rom first, and it doesn't boot, then I F8 into the boot menu and specifically tell it to use the DVD drive, and still nothing. It won't boot from the disc on either of my PCs, so I'm wondering if the download from digitalriver is corrupt. My Vista disc boots on both PCs without a hiccup.

Any ideas anyone?

Guys if you read the tutorials, how to create a bootable disk from the student download, pretty much to the "T" it will work. The middle link from Post #5.
