    Fresh install on SSD-quick query

Hi all. My W7 HP install on a Samsung 840 Pro SSD is getting a bit ragged, so I thought I'd do a clean install and have a fresh start.
When I first got the SSD I just disconnected my HDDs and installed from a disc. To that end I'm just downloading an ISO of W7+SP 1, from Digitalriver. I have my original retail disc, but I thought that having SP1 on the ISO would save time.

I now have a UEFI mobo, is there anything I should be aware of? (Gigabyte Z77-D3H)

My intended method is, as before, burn the ISO to disc, disconnect the other drives, boot it, and just install it.

Anybody see any problems with this?

Thanks, and a big hello to all my old pals on here

Hi John. You've got the right idea.

In addition take advantage of the experience compiled in these same steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 so that nothing needed is left behind, including the tools and tricks that assure you'll get and maintain a perfect install.

Thanks Greg, I just wanted to make sure re the UEFI boot thing. There doesn't seem to be any way to disable it in BIOS. This is what has prevented me from dual booting Linux, as I used to do. It's a pain in the arse. I'm running Linux in a VM, but it's not quite the same:)
Can't rep you I'm afraid, you must be the last person I repped on here a few months ago

John, comb the BIOS settings for Compatibility Support Module (CSM) or Legacy BIOS to enable. There will be one or the other to disable UEFI. If not then install to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums. You must delete all partitions during the booted install to change from/to UEFI.

You should be able to find your PC's Manual on the Samsung Support Downloads webpage to read more about changing the setting.

Thanks again Greg, I'll have a look, i have manuals for the mobo and the SSD. I would dearly like to lose the EFI as it's preventing me dual booting Linux, as I say. All previous attempts have failed. I'll do this tomorrow when I'm fresh:)
    Cheers for your help, John:)

Keep us posted on what you find, John. I've not yet heard of a BIOS that has neither CSM or Legacy BIOS settings to change. If it's a Windows 8 PC it may require disabling Secure Boot first.

Once that's done here's what's worked to Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7.

Hi gregrocker. I just finished that re-install. Seems to have gone ok. I have attempted to disable EFI boot, by enabling legacy boot in the BIOS, not sure whether I have succeeded yet. I have had a few boot failures as I re-install various utilities, and the boot doesn't seem to be as quick as it was. As I say I'm plodding through utilities at the moment. I'll let you know whether I've been 100% successful tomorrow:) John

What were the exact settings changes in the BIOS, John?

Hi Greg:) It was a lot of trial and error, I enabled CSM and I enabled Legacy Boot. That didn't quite do the trick. A "load optimal settings" setting enabled " UEFI and Legacy Support". I'm not sure what this means in terms of doing a dual boot with a Linux distro. UEFI wouldn't allow it before. I'll see. Fed up with installing for now:) Thanks for your help Greg:)
