Installation disks missing
My friend (new to computers) recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C675D-S7109 Computer.
Windows 7 Home Premium. 64 bit.
I helped him create a set of installation disks the first day he brought it home. Also installed MSE virus protection.
Last week he got a virus where the FBI wanted $300 to unlock his computer. Everything was locked up and disabled. Couldn't even get to the desktop before the FBI message. He fiddled with it and somehow made it worse ending up getting nothing on boot but a white screen.
I booted up in Safe Mode and tried to do a Factory Image Restore. Everything seemed to go well for the first few minutes, then a message came up. (Can't remember the exact words, but something to the effect of "Unrecoverable error" and then the system hung.)
Now it won't do anything on power on. F-8 doesn't work. The screen doesn't show any indication that it is even trying to boot.
Booted up okay using Ubuntu from USB, but can't see any files on disk.
And the biggest problem is that my friend has misplaced the installation disks!!
He has a legitimate Certificate of Authenticity sticker with the 25-digit product key. Can I just make a set from another computer and use them on his machine, then plug in his numbers?
****** EDIT ******
I found the answer in another thread!
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
Thanks, anyway.
