Windows 7 64 bit

No I am getting a new error that reads as follows...

A problem has been deteched and windows has been shut down to prevent damage.

If this is the first time you are seeing this stop error screen, restart your computer.

If the screen appears again you should...

Check for viruses. Remove any new hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdisk/f to check for hard drive corruption.

I also have a dell inspiron 1721 and am having trouble. When trying to do a clean install of windows 7 - 64 bit it just outright doesn't recognise my HDD. There is an option to browse for a driver for them but I cant find one anywhere!

Also i dont have the 32 bit version because I bought the student version that only includes the 64-bit version (that I foolishley picked!)

Any hope for me?

I have the same stupid problem when I try to do a clean install by booting from the CD. Dell is really starting to annoy me...

Do you have Vista 32 or 64?

what a bitch, now we have two on the same thread asking ?????
this is for B3stiie. NOT all systems are x64 ready. If the advisor says your not compatible, then your not. therefore you have to install x86.
Now with corruption, unless you have deleted your hidden partition, so you can 100% restore your original OS.
I'd format c: /FS:ntfs
Then set the BIOS to boot to USB. Boot to USB and select custom install.
Clean. then set there and watch... when it STARTS the REBOOT...
and your screen goes black... pull the USB - its not needed any more. it will boot to HDD, and install Win 7. the HDD drivers are still there.
You do know how to make a Bootable USB..

Have you tried installing with the BIOS set to RAID ON? With one HDD it will be configured in single-member RAID and should use the built-in Windows 7 AHCI drivers successfully.
I've read through all the post so I appologize in advance if you've already tried that.

It states I am fully compatible for the 64 version. The advisor says I'm ready. It's Dell who talked me into getting a 32bit and go to 64bit after windows 7 is release. Now they don't have 64 bit drivers up for vista or windows 7. Hell they don't even have the windows 7 32bit drivers for my system up. The guy said, "We promise to have them January or Feburary".

To top things, he tried to talk me into buying another 64bit laptop install of switching the one I have. I don't know why he keeps recommending I stay 32 bit with this one. All he says it, "I recommend you stay 32 bit vista or 7. 64 bit is causing problems and a lot of people are going 32 bit."

What really piss me off is they admitted to having the drivers, but just not ready to release them...I mean WTF? It's been 2 years since I bought this thing. This guys is really annoying me.

I have a dell inspiron 1720, if I go to dell support page, they only support windows vista 32-bit.

I have decided to first install Windows 7 x86, and if the x64 drivers are available, I will install Windows 7 x64.

I am still waiting to receive Windows 7 retail

If I installed Windows 7, I will try to post a small review about the installation.

Cool, I'd be curious to see how it goes. Windows 7 has such a broad native driver support that if switching to RAID in the BIOS lets the OS see the disk correctly, everything else may install fine and you may not need to worry about what Dell tells you about if and when drivers will be available.

For the most part, I think they're having Vista drivers re-certified for W7 and that takes time. I think when they are all done, they'll be the same basic drivers as what you have available now.

yep, im running vista-32 bit, also my computer is set to "raid on" in the bios and am having (I assume) the same problems as you..
