    Windows 7 won't read

Right now, I am currently running 32bit Windows Vista Home Premium. My computer is an AMD Phenom X2 Quad-Core 9550 and I have 6gb of memory and it originally came with 64bit Windows Vista Home Premium. Unfortunately my hard drive had to be replaced and FutureShop decided to install 32bit. So yes my computer does support 64bit. When I pop in the DVD, it says: The version of this file is not compatible with your version of Windows blah blah blah. Ok, thats fine. I'll do a clean install.

So I try and reboot my system. I set the bios so that my DVD drive is first (SATA DVD drive) and it doesn't detect the Windows 7 disk and doesn't say to press to continue or something. I tried the disk on my Asus laptop and it detected fine and said press to continue or whatever, but my laptop isn't 64bit compatible so I didn't install it. After trying this, I figured it could be the DVD. So I burn another copy but slower (4x) and still no go. I put in my old windows XP disk into my computer and it detects it but then I try putting in the windows 7 disk and it doesn't. Please someone help, I've tried using an old IDE DVD drive that I had and still nothing. Disconnected all the USB ports. Even tried running the windows 7 disk while the hard drive was disconnected. Still doesn't detect it. My computer is HP.

What can I do? anyone know? I've already backed up my stuff so I can just delete everything. It doesn't really matter to me.

I'm reading it and I don't see how to fix this. Sorry if I'm really bugging anyone but I've been trying to work this out for almost 3 hours already.

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

From what I can gather, you downloaded an ISO for Win7.

    What version is it?

How did you burn it to DVD?
    Which burning program?
    At what speed?
Did you copy the ISO or 'Burn an ISO'?

Check this tutorial how to Burn Disc Image - ISO or IMG file .

Or try to use this tutorial: USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

As DocBrown says, check the Questions to use for help with Installation Issues and Tutorial quick reference list for Installing Windows 7 sticky threads for tutorials and info to give us that will tell what you have done so far.

Both of the above tutorials are in the links that DocBrown gave you.

If you can give us more information, we can try to help.

I burned 2 DVD's. The first DVD I used Nero burning at 8x. The second disc I burned using Imgburn or something like that at a speed of 4x. I Burned as an ISO. Like I said, its readable on my laptop but for some reason, it won't read on my HP desktop.

Set your BIOS to boot from CD/DVD.

Or, press 'ESC' at the window when your computer first starts. It will say something like 'Boot Options'.

I set the dvd drive as 1st prioirty, 2nd is floppy, 3rd is hdd, 4th is network. When I select Esx key and select my DVD drive to boot nothing happens. It just goes to Vista. I think I'm just going to give up and pay someone to do this. I'm sick of how hard it is to install the "simplest windows ever"

Did you see the first screen with the key to strike for BIOS and another key for Boot Options?

ESC is the usual key for HP but yours may be different.

You need to press the key repeatedly for it work on most computers.

It could be a hardware problem.

Try the USB memory key method, if you have a 4GB key. Does BIOS have an option to boot from USB?

Win7 installation is not the problem you are having now, it's an existing hardware issue or maybe software.
