Hello Adgower, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can use the tutorial below to create a ISO file from this to burn to a DVD, then use the DVD to install Windows 7 with.

Make bootable iso from student d/l

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Scroll down a bit on that thread and look for my post. Copy my syntax but instead of going through desktop etc just copy the expandedSetup Folder to the C:\

as noted in this:

How to make a DVD of that student-only Windows 7 you bought for $29.99

It should be this below:

Oscdimg.exe –u2 –b"C:\Users\Alex\Desktop\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com" –h "C:\Users\Alex\Desktop\expandedSetup" C:\7.iso

instead of:
Oscdimg.exe -u2 -b"C:\Users\Alex\7\expandedSetup\boot\etfsbo
ot.com" -h "C:\Users\Alex\7\expandedSetup" C:\7.iso

I believe that it is saying that you will only be able to acticate your Student Windows 7 Upgrade version with that product key number with only a Upgrade Install from Vista to Windows 7 and not a Clean (format) install. That's all.

I think some notes are needed in the tutorial.

First, people need to know that the error message is to be EXPECTED. It's simple, at the end of the extraction, it's trying to auto launch the setup file, which is a 64bit file trying to run in 32 bit windows.

Second, when it asks for a product key, DO NOT enter it, just click next.

Everything should run smoothly after that.

Upon getting into Windows, go to control panel and activate your key.

I had the digital river student download, created the ISO using this site's tutorial, ignored the error, and went from 32bit vista to 64 bit 7 using custom install by remembering not to enter a product key during setup.
