Windows fresh installation issue Error Code 0x80072F8F

    Hi All,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help!

I believe I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 home premium as I've been using it without problems for the last year. I've recently installed a new gigabyte motherboard and i5 processor so decided to do a clean install of windows 7 using my original disk. It all installed okay but after a few days windows 7 expired and every time I've tried to activate by typing or phoning with my original product key I have been unsuccessful. It says a problem occurred when windows tried to activate, Error Code 0x80072F8F.

I've also tried ligit check and got the following report using the diagnostic tool.

    Thanks in Advance

It says this is an OEM copy of Win7. Did you buy an OEM retail copy or are you reinstalling Factory OEM?

It's the original Dell copy I brought to install on my custom build last year?

To my iknowledge Dell only sells or provides OS software to install on Dells, not custom builds. What exactly did you buy? What does it say on the disk?

    It's a reinstallation DVD windows 7 premium SP1 64 bit.

It installed fine on my non dell system when I originally brought it a year a go and don't understand why it won't work now.

I've thought about buying a new product key off amazon but worried it won't work

    Thanks

    Hi FINNDOG703,

This seems to be the disk provided by us only. Was this disk provided for this system only or maybe some other dell system as well that you own.

And if you use this disk it normally doesn't prompt you to enter the product key at the time of installation.

Is the product key on the system is intact completely. Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

    Hi Sandeep,

I forgot to set the time on my pc after doing the hardware change. After I set the correct time windows 7 seems to be running okay although sometimes I still get the enter the product code screen occasionally comes up which I just close down. Updates are still being done so far so good.

    Cheers
