stop error when boot from disk

working on a dell n1050. the hard drive had physically failed. I installed a used one. formatted it thru cmd prmt. now I try to boot the pc from the install disk. it loads files, windows logo, then bsod. stop error: c000021a. I may need to verify the drive got formatted correctly, but otherwise, windows is not installed on this pc. now what?

What type of HDD are you installing too? SSD? How did you format it? DISKPART?

I used cmd prompt 'format driveletter: /y', but I think I should chuck it up in my caddy and format it from there. If the drive is really formatted, I should think I would have a different result. The drive was used, but otherwise same in all aspects to match the laptop requirements.

Do the format during Windows 7 installation - see step 6, 7 and 8 in the tutorial

During install, at the languages screen, press SHIFT+F10 to open the command window. Run DISKPART, then select that disk and run the CLEAN command.

Now reboot and try install as normal.

What type of install dvd are you using, is it retail, oem, or did you make it yourself ?

    Yes, this matters.

c000021a means there's bad sectors on your hard drive.
