Format C Drive and install with upgrade disc

Is it possible to use the upgrade disc to format C drive (it has the Windows 7 RC activated, I can also reinstall Windows Vista if I have to), and do a clean install?

    Thanks,

okay thanks, i thought the upgrade disc has to see an activated OS all the way through the install. Looks like they made it so that they confirm you have valid O/S from the start.

    Sweet!

    Thanks guys!

Correct. They confirm at start. You can then format if you like.

Is there a way you can confirm your assertion? I would think, especially if you had more than one OS on you drive, Windows would wait until you told it which OS to use for the upgrade and then verify.

But if you have something to prove my assumption is not correct, please advise.

And ultimatebuster, would you please post back if you were able to activate after you format first.

As long as it finds a qualifying OS installed, your good to go. It doesn't ask which one to use. You don't have to install over the qualifying OS either. You can install to any partition or even a blank HD. And yes, it will activate after format....I've done it.

None of this really matters. You can always install without entering the Product KEY and then use the method on Paul Thurrott's site to activate:

Doesn't need a qualifying OS to install from boot.
