Reformat gone bad - please help

If there is an available jack on the cable/mode/router and you have an extra Ethernet cable, you can connect the Win7 machine without disturbing the movie

Sounds like it was the cable then.

Use only the tools and methods provided in tutorial to avoid problems. Advanced System care is problem. If you can't undo it like Andrew suggests then System Restore to before it was installed.

I'm willing to try that, but I'm a bit puzzled. Why is Advanced System Care such a problem? I'm just trying to understand. Am I meant to avoid all registry cleaning programs?

Yes. Avoid them and anything promising to speed up windows.

Yes, avoid any "Registry" cleaning programs !
Do not use them for any reason.

Thanks for the links, guys. I performed the recommended system restore which took me back about a half hour. The registry cleaning program is still left on my pc, but I'm pretty sure the 'repair' I performed was undone. I'll avoid registry cleaners for now and read the links provided.

Finishing updates now. . .

great job. Remember that NO software will speed up Windows or make things somehow better. when it comes to your operating system the last thing you should be doing is using third party programs to try to fix what is not broken. I am pretty sure that if Microsoft thought you needed a registry cleaning program they would have included it in Windows like they did back in the Windows 98 days. So yes a long time ago optimization programs and other utilities we're very useful. With more modern operating systems however this is no longer the case.

Okay, point taken about the registry cleaning programs being obsolete, but can't I use a program like Advanced System Care and just skip the registry cleaner?

Also, what about Malwarebytes? Should I avoid malware cleaners as well?

Sorry, Bill, if I am 'recycling' this thread. Where should this discussion be directed?

Avoid anything that is/is like advanced system care. Windows can take care of itself just fine. IF you would like something that cleans a little better and has a simpler interface, ccleaner is the only recommended solution at the default settings. CCleaner - Delete Junk Files

If you have any performance issues with windows look in the action center under control panel-system and security-action center. From there you can always look at the built in troubleshooters for performance or clean up/maintenance.

No, malware bytes is fantastic. Antimalware programs are great.

You do want to avoid running 2 antivirus programs.
Having 2 antivirus programs would cause one another to fight over resources slowing your PC down, as well as detecting threats multiple times or detecting each other.

But malwarebytes along side your antivirus is fine and encouraged. Another antispyware program is fine too like superantispyware. Just don't have multiple antispyware programs running in the background.

Example: by the clock there are icons indicating programs that are running in the background.

The free version of malwarebytes only runs when you open the program. The paid version has a resident on access scanner that always runs by the clock and helps protect you. Both the paid version of malwarebytes and a Antivirus is fine to use. Its because they look for different things.
