Help!!! CD\DVD ROM driver issue only when using RAID

Hi Guys,

I am doing a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P Motherboard and a LG GGW-h20L Blu ray writer. I can install Windows 7 fine on a single SATA disk setup with the bios settings set to IDE. But when I set the bios settings to RAID and plug the 2 hard disks in and run the windows setup it asks for the CD\DVD rom driver. It does not do this when setting it up on a single disk. I have tried the AHCI option, SATA, option, IDE options

I have the latest bios and have tried locating the drivers for the LG writer but was unable to find them. The LG writer already has the latest firmware installed.

My motherboard has a SB750 chipset RAID controller.

Any help would be most appreciated as this problem is driving me

Abz, I dont think it needs the DVD driver. I think it needs the Raid driver to access the DVD after you start the install, if it is hooked up to one of the SATA ports that are now behind the raid controller.

Seems like you want to run the disks in some type of array. You will have to "join" them with your motherboard bios into the RAID first. Then when you go to install Windows to the RAID, you need the RAID driver for your motherboard controller. Have it ready on a floppy, usb or hard drive not attached to the RAID.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Windows 7 has a lot of RAID drivers pre-installed. I came across a problem similar to this. I kept getting the error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition."

Make sure you set your raid array as the FIRST boot device

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

Hi Guys,

I made the changes in the bios.

I figured it out. On the GA-MA790fx_UD5P mobo you are supposed to use SATA ports 4/5. Then after you plug the new Drives you need to run the RAID controller and set the array (ctrl + f), allocate the drives to raid 0. Then you can install the OS. Then you get to use the RAID driver and it picks up your CD-ROM also.

Much appreciated for the replies guys

Thank you so much.
