    install UNIX with Win 7


    Hi everybody,
    I want to install UNIX with windows 7, I want to keep wind 7, just for my work I would like to learn UNIX and work with its commands, I am beginner in Unxi, and would like to gradually work with UNIX completely. I do not know what should I do for starting? what should I install?

    You have 2 choices, either install in a dual-boot scenario, or as a virtual machine.

    In your case, a virtual machine is probably best:
    Linux - Install on Windows 7 Virtual Machine using VirtualBox

    I would recommend starting with either LinuxMint or Zorin...these are the easiest to transition to from Windows

    You do realize, I hope, that UNIX and Linux are not the same. Linux is a derivative of Unix (to a large degree), but UNIX was designed by folks at Bell Labs. The commands are not the same and they use different shells.

    The easiest way to start with Unix is to download free Oracle Solaris 11 Unix and install it to Oracle VirtualBox virtual machine. Here's Solaris Unix running on my Windows desktop on a vm: DOS and UNIX on Windows7
