    Disk Drive running non-stop

I have installed a clean copy of Windows 7, after a full format of the drives. However CSRSS.exe has started doing nonstop I/O reads and I can find no way to stop it. (I know not to touch the exe itself) I shut down everything that may be hitting the hard drive including the virus scan and it continued to read the drive nonstop. Task Manager shows it doing non stop I/O reads and no I/O Writes... Advice?

mdc, could this be it: Csrss.exe uses 100% of the CPU When you Right-Click an item in Explorer ?

I would create another profile and test if there is a difference, before starting to delete profiles.

Let us know if it helps

Helpp... CSRSS still hitting the C drive with I/O reads nonstop and no idea why. I also shut down antivirus, browsers etc and the same issue, non stop disk reads. I worry the C drive will EOL with all this activity?

    mdc, I see two possibilities:
    - csrss is known to be infected by viruses, which disguise as this program. I suggest you run an on demand virus program such as Malwarebytes to check that
    - csrss is responsible for running different tasks (reference here), it should not be running by itself. Do you have any background task, such as backup, going on?

Thanks for the ideas. Ran the routines and nothing found. I have nothing running in the background. Even shut off the antivirus routines. I am wondering if the it is motherboard to bios to disk issue... something is causing this thing to just read the disk. The noise alone drives yah nuts.
