Installing Window 7

Ive had issues before with some computers that have "locks" encoded into the bios so that you would be unable to update or install a new OS. most of the computers i've seen with this are Dell and a few HPs. If this is what Acer is saying then this would be my first Acer computer with a bios lock. Normally you would only need to call them to "unlock" the bios setup so you can install a new OS.

(Umm... I've read others talk that the reason that they do this is to make sure you $$ BUY $$ another computer with the NEW OS rather than stick with your current computer. [sic] )

Well, after i installed windows 7 i can go on the desktop but after i restart i see the message "DMI pool update success" then just stuck on that screen for a very long time can't even go back on windows 7 i just did a fresh install just now. and i did a repair still stuck on the same screeen

Computer stops at verifying dmi pool data....

I would follow Shinobi's advice and call Acer to ask if they have some kind of lock on the BIOS on that model to keep from installing a new OS, and if so you want it unlocked. Tell them you are fully prepared to put the old bloaty OS back on if they require it at some point in the future to support hardware. Be pleasant but firm.

MS Tech support could have worked you past this by now.

When you get to the screen early on in Windows 7 Setup where it asks you which volume to install onto I've found that it pays to select the volume/partition and choose to delete it.

Some Acers have a small hidden partition (containing god only knows what, but causing you to see a message saying that W7 setup cannot proceed... blah, blah... Acer... OEM...) and you may see Setup delete the volume/partition and leave about 100Mb to one side.

After deleting the volume/partition the greyed out next button is lit up and you can proceed normally with the W7 install.

Had the same issue on a Veriton earlier today :)

I don't have a floppy to boot it from.. anyother ideas?

I tried deleting the partition on my vista before i install it...

Yes the EISA partition on Acer has to be taken out by special Diskpart commands.

Delete and Remove to Unlock EISA Hidden Recovery or Diagnostic Partition in Vista

Following the steps in the tutorial you will discover all hidden and other partitions on the HDD. I would go ahead and delete them all, using the special diskpart override command if there is an EISA.

Then boot back into the installer, create partitions as you please and quick format the one where you reinstall 7.

Nvm i just deleted the EISA then what?

Now boot from the Win7 installer, choose Custom install, Advanced tools> Delete until all space is unallocated> Create new partitions as you wish >Format those and install Win7 to first partition.

Yeah i did that but i still went to the "DMI pool data" stucked there and i had to reinstall vista
