Windows 7: can't install 7 pro

can't install 7 pro

i have vista ulitmate x64, trying to install OEM win 7 PRO, i get the message that it can't get any infomation on my drives. is there a fix for this, getting very flustered.

the message is
Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer.

Do you have SATA drives? Are you using AHCI? Are you pressing F6 during the initial boot and installing SATA/RAID drivers, and then proceeding with the installation? Have you installed the latest BIOS update for your motherboard?

Thanks for the answer, the install doesn't gp far enought tp press F6, i have the latest drivers and the newest bios, where is AHCI? that i don't know.....

Exactly when do you get a message about the drives? Are you attempting to upgrade from within Vista, or are you booting from the DVD?

Have you read this thread?

i've tried both ways, i get the same message no matter what. I'm very frustated right now, at MS and Asus. I have downloaded all the update, to no avail. i just want this to work. Thanks again for answering.
