hi I have a tower pc with xp pro if I format and install windows 7 oem but do not enter product key can the computer still run. I want to sell it with windows 7 installed and let buyer purchase product key from Microsoft I want to show that it will run windows 7 home premium.all replys welcome thanks
Should run fine for 30 days without activation as far as I know.
I assume the Win 7 OEM you intend to install is already installed and activated on some other PC?
The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor run from XP will let you know what issues the PC faces to run Win7.
Note that if you boot the installer while XP is still on the PC it will pass a flag allowing use of Upgrade version Product Key, even if you then go on (as you should) to use the Drive Options in Steps 7/8 to delete all partitions to get the cleanest Clean Install Windows 7.
Then you have the option to use Product Key for Full, Upgrade or OEM retail versions of Win7 as long as they are for Home Premium
