Error message during install - device connected to computer

Bought a 'ready to go' desktop from a computer seller online, without an operating system (they charge a lot for it).
changed boot priority from hd to cd drive in bios.
put in win 7 install disc i burned from an iso, and which on other computers seems to work normally, windows install welcome screen comes on.
it starts 'loading windows files', then a few seconds later this message comes on.

of course there is nothing connected to the computer, and i disabled boot from usb in bios for good measure.
    thank you very much,
    n

I would return the computer to the seller you purchased from, for the reason that there is nothing connected to the computer like you said then there is a faulty peice of hardware and unless you purchased the computer under the knowing that there was a faulty peice of hardware then return it for a full refund.

there are two sata hard drives. i tried unplugging one at a time and restarting, same result.
    both busted? seems odd.
and it can't be the cd rom if it started reading the windows files, correct?

If you can start the windows install from the disk then no the Optical drive is working fine

    thank you.
i've tried unhooking the two 160gb 3.5's an putting in an old 40gb 2.5 hd from a laptop with xp.
made bios default (f9) xp started normally, but neither usb mouse nor keyboard had power/worked (plugged into both front and back usb's).
so i installed win 7 on the same drive, put it back in the computer, but it got stuck right after window started loading.
i then put in a 500gb hd with windows 7 from a new laptop, but got same result. gets stuck and restart-loops seconds after windows starts loading.
computer has to go back, no doubt. of course seller is pulling the ole file-a-claim-with-carrier nonsense.
i'd just be really curious what this problem might be.

finally took it to a shop and they put in a new drive, working fine now...
