    Wanna Transfer from Vista 64...

Hey guys! New to the board but am a member at vistax64.com. I haven't been on the boards in some time, which is why I was COMPLETELY oblivious to the fact that Windows 7 has been released!

Earlier this year (roughly March) I built my rig from the ground up, and purchased Vista 64 Home Premium edition, and was under the impression that I could get a cheap upgrade, if not free, to Windows 7 when it came out. This was a big plus to purchasing the OS. Now I am reading that there was only a small window between the end of June and January to get the upgrade. Otherwise you'd need to pay? I bought the OEM version of Vista.

How off am I? Please tell me I'm way off and I can get a very cheap/free upgrade.

Thanks guys, and I love the board!

I don't how that works, but I can tell you what I'd do if I had to pay full value under your circumstance.

I would moan and complain to whatever merchant you bought Vista from. If they're unwilling to help or set a "fair" price, tell them you're really good with Youtube or something lol and you will let everyone know how you don't appreciate the lack of courtesy to their customers.

Something along those lines. Hopefully you'll get lucky and there is some kind of discount for someone in your situation.

Good luck! Let's see what other members have to say about how it works and/or what they know about this.

I personally feel it would be very unfair for you to have to pay a lot. That being said, I think there may actually be some official discount you're entitled to.

To be fair to Microsoft however, I do feel that Windows 7 is the absolute best OS I have ever used and that's from early 80s and on. Going by this, it is worth whatever anyone pays for it, regardless of price.

I order all of my computer parts from Newegg.com. They are currently showing the Home Premium 64bit for $109.99 OEM / $189.99 Retail. I bought my OEM version on 3/6/2009. Maybe I'll send them an email and ask them for the favor. I really hope they will at least bend and give it half off. They are currently selling the Vista OEM with a Win7 coupon for the same price as the OEM Win7 version.

The free upgarde program is for PCs or copies of Vista purchased between June 26, 2009, and January 31, 2010:

The usual purpose of such an offer is to persuade people to not delay purchases when a new OS is about to be released.

There was also a discount pre-order available from the Mirosft Store and a number or retailers (example: Win7 Home Premium Upgrade for $49.99), but that only ran from June 26 to July 11. Supposedly, it was to reward unofficial Win7 beta testers. (It wasn't restricted to them.)

I hope that you can persuade someone to give you a break on Win7, although you missed the dates on the offer.
