Windows 7: Transfer installed win 7 from one hdd to new hdd

Thanks Hannibal001.

Indeed, it certainly doesn't seem worth the money at the moment for a 20 second improvement in boot time (though, read another way - this is 50% faster!) Nevertheless, for the future, I am still curious as to whether this is even feasible - cloning to smaller drive would appear to be fraught with theoretical problems.

Is there a solution?

Worth the money YES, feasible yes, and there are several solutions. You can search the threads here for reading until you are ready if you like they are really good.

Found these forums to be very helpful by the way - the thread on activating AHCI in my drives after the fact was very useful.

Thanks for any advice!
You'd shrink the Win7 partition to slightly smaller than the SSD's size after formatting, then save your image or clone one drive to the other.

Most SSD's come with a premium cloning app bundled in which is what I would use.
